The Smiths--Deron, Becca, Abby, Makayla, and Toria--were in Jinja from 1994- 2002. Deron worked primarily with the village churches. He enjoyed discipling leaders, teaching in the
Busoga
Bible
School
, and facilitating marriage seminars in the village churches.
After leaving
Uganda
, the Smiths lived in
Bristol
,
England
for a year-and-a- half, where Deron worked on a doctorate in theology. In January 2004 they moved to
Springfield
,
Missouri
to begin ministry with the East Sunshine Church of Christ. While Becca's primary ministry is her family, she helps facilitate outreach to guests and loves drawing people into community. Deron preaches and teaches and spends lots of time with people one-on-one and in small groups.
Becca's biggest job is home-schooling the girls. The girls all love to sing and dance and have dreams of being an all-sister Christian band some day. They like to watch video tapes of the family's time in
Africa
. Abby and Makayla have good memories, especially of playing with their friends, eating chicken "supu" in the village, and getting tatoo gum at the local shack-shop. For all of the Smiths, being a part of the Jinja team was one of the best, most joyful parts of their lives.
