The preschool ministry officially began in 2002. However, even before the team began working in this area, church members in several of the village churches had already started schools in their church buildings during the week. Most of these men and women had no training, and began asking the team teachers to share what they knew about teaching children.
Betty and Terri offered a weekend seminar for about 20 teachers in 2001 which was very well-received and marked the beginning of team involvement with the preschool ministry. When Rebecca and Erika came in 2001 to fill the roles of team teachers, they also got many requests for help in this area. In 2002, they began offering weekend seminars for village teachers, and other interested individuals. From that time, the program has grown to include both a basic level course as well as an advanced one. Over 40 teachers have participated in the training and over 20 preschools have been started by the village churches. As Erika prepares for her June departure, the preschool ministry has been put under the oversight of the Busoga Bible School, and she is currently making plans to transfer the direction of the training program to a few of the outstanding graduates who have a heart for ministry to children.
