ImageRichard Bazonoona became a Christian in 1994, along with his wife Ida. Since that time both he and Ida and their  children – Rogers, John Mark, and Rebecca have grown in our churches and have helped our churches grow.

Richard plays important roles in the churches of Christ in Basoga. As the minister of Jinja church of Christ, Richard leads by listening – listening to leaders share their ideas, listening to members and visitors share their problems, and listening to Scripture speaking to the lives of people in Jinja.  Richards’s example in this speaks to how his life has been shaped by Jesus Christ – he models servant leadership in a culture of corrupt leadership.  His leadership is evident in Jinja church in the way a group of leaders have emerged that trust each other and are dreaming together about the way “to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.” (Eph 4:12).  Richard is also a member of the board of directors of Busoga Bible School (BBS), a ministry charged with the important task of training and raising up a new generation of church leaders.  BBS and the board have been asking tough questions about being good stewards of the resources and opportunity they have.

Richard is also a dedicated father and husband.  His children reflect this in their character. Ida expresses this to all who know her.  The story of the Bazonoona family is like many families in Uganda.  They have struggled to find resources to provide for their children and build for their future.  They have struggled through the death of a child and marital issues.  But they have remained faithful to each other, faithful to their church community, and faithful to God.  And Richard would tell you that God has been faithful to them! Richard’s life and ministry is a testimony to the people of Uganda and the missionaries who have been blessed to work with him.

Jinja projects
Hi there,
My name is JOelle Siemens and I am a traveller from Canada. Recently I spent a couple of nights in Jinja and got to see the Source Cafe, and some of the church ministries. But what really effected me were the numerous street children in the area. Can you tell me if there are any programs to help those children. Programs for getting them food an shelter, education, etc...? I found it very sad and promised myself that I would look into what type of services were provided for these children as it seemed like the majority of children had to look out for themselves.

Thanks a lot, I look forward to hearing from you.
